Storage assessment first
Before any parts are ordered, we check the current hard drive health, the system spec, the RAM, and the Windows install to confirm SSD replacement is the right fix and the machine is worth upgrading.
Speed up your slow laptop or PC
Replacing a slow spinning hard drive with an SSD is one of the most cost-effective ways to make an older laptop or PC feel like new. Geeks On Call handles SSD upgrades in Auckland including data transfer, Windows setup and a full functionality check before you take your device home. Drop-off at Panmure by appointment.

Why SSD makes the difference
An SSD upgrade is not just swapping a drive. A good upgrade checks the whole system first and confirms the drive change will actually fix the slowness rather than reveal a different underlying fault.
Before any parts are ordered, we check the current hard drive health, the system spec, the RAM, and the Windows install to confirm SSD replacement is the right fix and the machine is worth upgrading.
We confirm whether your laptop or PC takes a 2.5-inch SATA SSD, an M.2 SATA or an M.2 NVMe drive — as well as the right capacity — before purchasing parts. The wrong drive type will not fit or will underperform.
Where the existing drive is readable, data is migrated to the new SSD. Folders, documents, photos, installed programs and settings are transferred so you are not starting from scratch.
Windows is installed, updated and activated on the new drive. Drivers are checked, startup programs are reviewed and the system is tested for correct performance before handover.
The original hard drive is returned with the device unless you request otherwise. This lets you use it as an external backup drive or for further data access if needed.
After the upgrade, we explain a simple backup routine so your data on the new SSD is protected going forward. A backup drive or cloud solution can be set up at the same visit if needed.
Real-world difference
On a laptop or PC that was previously running a slow spinning hard drive, an SSD upgrade typically reduces boot time from 2–5 minutes to under 30 seconds. Apps open in a fraction of the previous time. File access, saving and browsing feel immediate rather than sluggish.
The improvement is most noticeable on machines that were fine when new but have slowed down over three to five years of use. An SSD can give a solid machine another two to four years of comfortable daily use without the cost of full replacement.
Not all slowness is the hard drive. RAM issues, malware, overheating, a failing drive or Windows corruption can create similar symptoms. We diagnose the cause first to make sure the SSD upgrade will actually fix your specific problem before you spend money on parts.
Yes, for most laptops. Replacing a slow spinning drive with an SSD dramatically reduces boot times, speeds up app launches and makes daily use much more responsive. We diagnose first to confirm the drive is the main cause of slowness.
Yes. Data transfer from the existing drive is included where the drive is readable. If the old drive has failed, data recovery may be required as a separate step first.
Not always. Data and Windows can often be migrated intact. In some cases a clean Windows install gives a faster and more reliable result — this is explained before the work starts so you can decide.
500GB is practical for most everyday users. 1TB suits people with larger photo, music or document collections. Call with your current storage use and we will recommend the right size.
Most laptops with a traditional hard drive can be upgraded. Some older models only fit 2.5-inch drives; newer models may support faster M.2 drives. Call with your model and we will confirm compatibility.
